Mt. Victory, Hale Township. was surveyed
and laid out by R. D. Miller, on August 23, 1851. the
land upon which the town was laid out belonged to the estate
of Cyrus Dille. It was soon to be sold at
administrator's sale. Samuel McCulloch had just laid
out the town of Ridgeway and for the interest of that
village desired to prevent the starting of another town four
miles east. Mr. McCulloch made an effort to out bid
all others at this sale and turn it into pasture. Ezra
Dille was on the alert and bid off the land and was
returning home when he was met by Thomas McCall who asked,
"Who won?" "We did." said Ezra Dille. Thomas
McCall shouted, "Victory! Victory!" the name shall be "Mt.
Victory!" and by that name the village has been known.
